Benefits for Business and Employment

Without GRT there would be a very high risk that Guangzhou's roads would face dramatically slowing travel speeds and worsening air pollution as car ownership rapidly increases. This would lead to a deterioration in the quality of life and an increase in the cost of doing business in Guangzhou.
Improving access to jobs and opportunities
Guangzhou's BRT will open up a range of employment and business opportunities for people who were previously restricted by the time and cost required to move along the Zhongshan Avenue corridor. Time savings and cost savings will put more jobs within reach of more people.
Improving productivity and the investment climate
Guangzhou's BRT will reduce the time that people, vehicles and goods need to move around Guangzhou to do business, especially but not only in the BRT corridor. Businesses which stand most directly to gain from GRT include shop owners and enterprises along the BRT corridor, bus operators, and support service industries. Businesses will also benefit from increased productivity with more relaxed and productive employees.
GRT will also open up new markets for goods and services in Guangzhou. Areas in the eastern part of the city that were previously difficult or time consuming to access will now be within a half hour trip from the city centre.
On a deeper level, by meeting their travel needs and providing improved public spaces GRT will strengthen the feeling of civic pride and 'belonging' for people in the city, including amongst the large low income migrant population which is concentrated in many areas along the Phase I corridor. This will in turn make Guangzhou a safer and more appealing place for investment and living.
